Announcement of Competition Chatwin Prize 2010

The 20th october 2010 is the expiry date for participating in the ninth edition of walking around the world–Chatwin Prize reserved to video, fiction and photography travel reportages.

 walking around the world–Chatwin Prize is dedicated to the english writer and traveller Bruce Chatwin. It is the only cultural event which – thanks to the exclusively permission of Elizabeth Chatwin, widow of Bruce - can spread the memory, the works and the thought of the english writer to promote and spread travel culture over Italy and abroad.



walking around the world–Chatwin Prize is a travel COMPETITION and FESTIVAL which, during the years, have become an important date for travellers and people found of travel literature.

The prize giving, the projections of the video dedicated to the best travel reportages and the literature meetings will take place within the FESTIVAL organised in collaboration with Liguria Region and the City Council of Genoa on november 18-19 and 20 in Genoa. Patroness of the competition will be Elizabeth Chatwin.

The COMPETITION is open to everybody. It has been created to promote and encourage cultural exchange among people of different countries, to make social initiatives and to support human projects.

The competition is divided into three sections:
FICTION
 travel writing
PHOTOGRAPHY
 world pictures - a travel in 5 photographic releases (5 pictures)
VOLUNTEERS AROUND THE WORLD  love without frontiers - video and photography reportages on voluntary services all over the world

HOW TO PARTECIPATE

The travel writing (in three copies) must not be longer than 50 rows (each of 60 characters; in total 3000 characters, including spaces). It must be dated and signed in each page. A short biographical note, address, personal data, and telephone number must be attached.



The five photos must be presented by 5 picture selection. It must have a title, a short presentation; each picture must be numerated and must have a caption
• digital support the reportage must be send on cd or dvd; the format must be 15 cm. (long side) to 300 DPI, or 1800 pixel (long side), in .JPG format. Cd/dvd must also contain a file (.doc, .rft, .pdf format) with reportage title, short presentation, author personal data, the date of partecipation at the competition

• paper support the reportage may also be send printed on photographic paper 30X40 format or similar. On the back of each photo, on proper sticky labels, must written personal data of the author, telephone number, a short caption and the date of participation at the competition.
The printed reportage must bes end together with cd/ dvd with digital copies of the photos which must have the same characteristics above specified

volonteer (video and photography) It’s required a video or a photografic reportage describing a humanitarian project. Both must bes end together with author personal data, phone number and mail address, and a short author’s biography. A short presentation of the humanitarian project descrived in the reportage is required too.

• video-reportage, in DVD format, must not be longer than 10 minutes
• photos reportage must have the same characteristics required for photography section
“world pictures” - a travel in 5 photographic

The reportages must be sent to
 camminando per il mondo–Premio Chatwin postale 18 - 19038 Sarzana (SP); cost of registration fee: € 15,00 in support of the UJ- UT Cultural Association, to pay into the postal checking account number 71907604

The material will not be returned and could be used by the UJ-UT Cultural Association for non-profit promotional purposes.

All the works (video, pictures, journals) sent in the date of the 20th october 2010 will be examined by the Prize jury which will select the first three classified of each section.

The winners names and the reasons of the jury will be transmitted by the media which cover the Prize and published on www.premiochatwin.it

The reportages of the video sections winners will be projected during the Festival days.

 The prize giving will take place on 20th november 2010 at the end of the Festival which will take place in Genova from november 18 to 20.

To the winners of the first price of each section, the Cultural Association Uj-Ut will give, as certificate of participation, a Moleskine collectors' edition signed by Elizabeth Chatwin, godmother and consultant of the Prize.

one week accomodation for two persons, in flat, offered by Parco Nazionale delle 5 Terre and 1.000,00 € contribution offered by Cultural Association Uj-Ut in support of the humanitarian project described in the reportage

long weekend for two people offered by Parco Nazionale delle 5 Terre
